Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20th 1964) was an American politician, attorney and vice president of the United States. She is the first woman to hold the vice-president and the highest-ranking female official in U.S history. As a member of the Democratic Party, she has been the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017, and also as an United States senator representing California until 2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Harris began her career with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. She was then appointed to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010. In 2014, she was re-elected. Harris was the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the 2nd African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. She was a senator and advocated for healthcare reform and federal cannabis de-scheduling. She also advocated for a pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented, the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. National attention was gained for her shrewd questions of Trump administration officials during Senate sessions. The most notable was Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual abuse.
